Of Forests Black and Snowy

We're a bit behind on our posting, but we've had an eventful couple of weeks. Two weekends ago we visited the Black Forest with some friends of ours, Julie and Erik. Erik grew up in the town of Wolfach in the Black Forest. It's an absolutely beautiful region, and we stopped to take a walk in the forest before seeing the picturesque town and grabbing some delicious pizza with black forest ham.

While we were walking we ran into a group of Black Forest cows on the road. We were nervous about it, but we asked a passing driver if it was dangerous that they were out. Why would it be? he responded - it's their road. (He also reasoned: are the reindeer on the roads in Norway dangerous? Didn't seem quite convincing to us...).  Erik and Julie are kind enough to help us practice German (though we are still like pre-schoolers in our ability, and you will not hear us speaking German in this video):
